Empowering Animation - need of the time
- Fr. Francis DabreThe Charity approach is slowly replaced by People Led Empowerment, PLE. It was the NGO who took initiative to plan and work for the poor and the marginalized, one thought that, we have to reach out to the poor and marginalized, we have to support them as they do not know and they have to be supported. It was the NGO who plan for the people and the people were not and never involved in the process of participatory decision.
Empowering AnimationNow it is the people let development, it is the people who plan and decide about their development as what are the realities and needs of the community. The whole process is participatory and people and especially the community leaders are involved in the process of planning. They assess the needs of the community therefore they are involved and ready to work for the community. There is a paradigm shift from Charity based approach to now people based approach. Our staffs too are empowered, they are more responsible and are ready to plan the activities and actually implement them. Even our staff is enthused and happy as they are now fully involved.
People Led Empowerment (PLE)It is not a project but a facilitation process of empowerment. It is the people centred development and it is let by the people, hence it has taken momentum among the people and our staff, there is lots of changes taking place, especially the attendance of the people in the Gram Sabha is almost cent percentage, the Mahila Gram Sabha are now full , they ask the local panchayat pertinent questions regarding the development of the village, they in fact challenge the local government officers, even they see that a particular activity is noted in the minutes books and later they see that the activity is implemented.
Joint ventureNow it is not the NGO but the people who are leading the villages to development. It is great process and we can see the results and development being taking place, hence, let us join hands with our poor and marginalised people to empower them through a process of animation.
