Covid-19 Relief Activity done by Janhit

Vasai Janhit Trust, the official social work department of the Diocese of Vasai got into action as soon as the COVD19 struck the country, especially the Diocese of Vasai region. A government circular was sent to all the parish priests with the contact numbers of ration shops, so each parish could then access this facility of the local government by Tehsildar. The Local gram pachayatsevaks and Vasai municipality elected councilors. Jan hit also contacted Local Police, Tahsildar and Municipal Mayor. They collaborated with each parish and proper ration was given to all.

Yet there were many people who did not have proper ration cards as they were migrants or those who had applied for. Many widows came forward with these difficulties; their names were sent to mayor to follow up. Meanwhile Janhit approached Local Tahsildar and informed about it, Janhit was given a pass to do relief work in Vasai region. It was surveyed and found out that there so many migrants and very poor widows who required ration.

An Emergency project was sent to Caritas India, New Delhi, whoimmediately approved Rs. 1. 00. 000 (One Lakh) for the relief of very poor and deserving families. The names were carefully selected and sent to the local parish Priests for the approval with contact numbers well in advance. Later the families were called at the church and ration was distributed by the local Parish priest and Janhit. The total ration was given to 120 families in Bhuigaon, Gass, Girij, Kiravali, Naigaon East, Nardoli.Many of them were migrants, widows, adivasis who did not have ration card or any proper documents.
